Description
Matching and sorting are big skills for independent work, and they’re even better when they look like real life. These free gift card matching file folders let students match and sort pictures of gift cards, a practical skill with a fun holiday twist.
What’s Included in the Gift Card Matching File Folders
- Assembly instructions: Simple steps to put the file folders together quickly.
- File folder pages: The matching boards for students to work on.
- File folder pieces: Gift card pictures to cut, laminate and match.
- Sorting pictures: Extra gift card pictures for sorting activities.
How to Use the Gift Card Matching File Folders
Print, laminate and cut the pieces, then glue the board inside a file folder. Students match each gift card piece to its spot on the board, or sort the cards into groups. Add Velcro so the folder can be used again and again.
File folders are one of my favorite independent work tasks because students can see exactly when they’re done.

Building Independence With Gift Card Matching File Folders
Matching and sorting are some of the first skills students master on their own, and that independence matters. When a student can finish a file folder from start to finish, they’re practicing the same skills they’ll use for jobs like sorting mail or stocking shelves. Gift cards are also something students see in real stores, which makes the task meaningful. For more ideas, read my post on 5 unconventional ways to use file folders.
