Making Transition Skills Digital!

Sharing is caring!

I’ve always believed that working on transition skills is important. No matter what age your students or children are teaching them essential life skills is important. One thing that I’ve been doing is creating some resources that could be used in the classroom or during distance learning. And I’ve fell in love with using Boom Cards!

What are Boom Cards?

If you’re not quite sure what BOOM cards are, you should check out my blog post all about BOOM cards (link to post). I love BOOM cards because they are interactive, self-correcting, and they collect data for you!

Students like doing them because BOOM cards are kind of like a video game that gives students and teachers feedback along with data! Teachers like BOOM cards because, if you purchase them, they are no prep! Can I get an amen for no cutting, laminating, or photocopying?!

I also love BOOM cards because they are accessible from any device with an internet connection, like a laptop, chromebook, iPad, tablets, or interactive whiteboard.

Boom Cards and Transition Skills

Anyways, one of my resources is called “Build a Food” BOOM cards and they are perfect for working on transition skills. This bundle contains ten BOOM card decks where students get to create food. The students have to follow the order on the card and create the food item by dragging and dropping the images. The ten sets are:

  • Pizza
  • Burger
  • Sandwich
  • Taco
  • Chocolate box
  • Cupcake
  • Donuts
  • Ice cream cone
  • Sushi tray
  • Cookie box

Can you tell that I picked my favorite foods? I also think that kids like many of these foods as well! Best part yet, it’s like working at a restaurant.

A Look at How it Works!

build a pizza boom cards

Let’s talk about the Pizza BOOM cards as an example. Students will get a set of cards. On the left hand side of the screen are the list of ingredients that they need to put on the pizza. Students will then drag and drop the correct items onto the pizza crust which is located on the right side of the screen.

Once they have dragged all the ingredients onto the pizza dough, students can click the “Submit” Button to get their work checked. If they are correct, they will move onto the next card. If there is a mistake, they can fix it.

Every set works in a similar way and I’ve got great news for you! If you click this LINK HERE you can download a file with a link to this free set that you can add right to your Boom library!

I’ve been using and creating BOOM cards for years. My students love them. My kinesthetic learners get to move pieces around. Visual learners can see things in vibrant colors and visual feedback. Auditory learners benefit from the auditory feedback. There is something for everyone. So why not set up an account and give it a try. BOOM might be just what you’re looking for during this season of unknown.
