Description
EAT is a word students already care about, which makes it a great core word for early communicators. This Core Vocabulary Adapted Book EAT set gives you an errorless book, a communication board, and a sorting mat, so you can model the word, practice it, and watch it carry over into real routines.
What’s Included in the Core Vocabulary Adapted Book EAT Set
- 2 adapted books: a clip art version and a real photo version. Clip art works well for younger learners, and real photos are great for older students or anyone who needs a more concrete picture.
- Communication board: the words from the book in one spot, so you can model EAT and build short phrases like “eat snack” or “eat cookie.”
- Sorting activity mat: use it as a cut and paste page, or laminate it so students can match and sort the symbols and words again and again.
How the Errorless Core Vocabulary Adapted Book EAT Works
Every page has one right answer, so students can only get it correct. That means every turn is a correct repetition of the word, and nobody gets stuck or frustrated. Read the book together and point to EAT on a core board, a communication device, or another form of AAC as you say it. Students move the interactive pieces as you read.
I like to read the same book several days in a row. The repetition is the point. By the third or fourth read, you’ll often see students reaching for the word before you model it.
Ways to Use the Core Vocabulary Adapted Book EAT in Your Classroom
- Whole group or morning meeting as your core word of the week
- Small group, with each student holding their own copy of the book
- 1:1 practice, or independent work once the routine feels familiar
- Send it home so families can model the word too
Teaching the Core Word EAT Beyond the Book
The book is the starting point. The real practice happens when EAT shows up in the moments students care about. A few places to model it every day:
- Snack and lunch: model EAT before every bite of the routine, and pair it with the food name.
- Play kitchen or pretend play: feed a baby doll or stuffed animal and model EAT.
- Read-alouds: point to EAT any time a character eats in the story.
- Cooking lessons: talk about what you will EAT before, during, and after.
Pause, point to EAT on the board, and give students a few seconds to respond. Count every attempt, whether it’s a touch on the board, a sign, a word, or a look.
Who the Core Vocabulary Adapted Book EAT Is For
This set works well for Pre-K through 3rd grade, and for older students who are early communicators. It’s a great fit for special education teachers, related service providers, and paraprofessionals supporting students who use AAC or are building their first words.
